In a Vase on Monday | 21st August 2023

Above is a picture of the basket that I take with me into the garden every morning. Around this time of year, in addition to the secateurs, snips, and gloves, I also pop in 2 plastic tumblers of water so I can gather flowers along the way. I never know what might be blooming and the crazy jumble that results is just as delightful as the more curated bouquets that come after.

My favorite mix this week — mixed godetias, a spray of Scepter’d Isle roses, dahlia Hartenaas, monarda, and a white bedding dahlia.

The rudbeckias to the left are the ones I cut for IaVoM 2 weeks ago! They are still going strong, so I freshened them up and moved them to a different room. Meanwhile, a second bouquet with even more big yellow daisies is now cheering up my bedstand.

Phlox, godetia, hollyhock and tree lilies for the front hallway.

A big bunch of lilies to keep the kitchen smelling nice, and a couple of calla lilies tucked in a corner of the bathroom to add a pop of color.

This is a post for Rambling in the Garden‘s In a Vase on Monday meme!

    1. Yep, we pretty much have SoCal early spring conditions all summer up here. Well, usually. This year was weirdly dry and hot so I didn’t sow them until later in June and they took their sweet time getting to flowering stage…

  1. What an excellent idea to take those tumblers of water out in your garden basket so that you’re prepared to snip along the way. Your flowers are certainly filling your house with beautiful colour 😀

    1. Awesome! It’s the first Rudbeckia I’ve ever grown and has definitely turned me into a convert. I’m trying three more varieties next year 😀

    2. Eek, I pasted the wrong reply into this a moment ago! What I was going to say was that it took a while, but I finally learned from the countless times I had to trek back to the house to get supplies upon seeing something I wanted in the middle of a garden walk 😀

  2. What an abundance of little vases, Angela – there is so much ‘clutter’ in our house that there are not many places you would notice a vase, although perhaps I should try harder!! Yours certainly show varied they can be from just a small number of blooms. Perhaps one of these days I might have enough lilies to cut one or two for a vase -well, I can hope 😉

    1. I was just thinking that all the IaVoM posts were inspiring me to go shopping for some bigger vases, though I’m not sure where I would place them! We have two cats, so I tend to situate them in small elevated corners they can’t reach. Putting a big bouquet right in the middle of a table might be too much for my Siamese mix to resist 😀
